Dear Rich, Episode #12
March 31, 2023
Dear Rich,
Hello my love! I woke up feeling more chipper and hopeful today. Last day of March! And exactly 3 weeks or 21 days until court.
I just had my visit with Marilyn. It was so good to see her! We talked and talked about everything and about nothing. I actually felt normal for once like we were on the phone talking about the latest hot gossip. She also told me that she sent me a letter, so looking forward to that. Funny story, remember when I was telling Marilyn about Cody? He’s a good looking white guy in my bunk area… Well today a miracle of miracles happened. My visit with Marilyn was at the same time as Cody’s visit with his sweet Mom!! So they got to see each other and I guess “meet” through the thick plexi glass. Marilyn looked beautiful, so Cody and I walked back to the dayroom after our visit, and he was as giddy as a little boy, who just got handed a piece of candy. I feel like Yenta from Fiddler on the Roof just like your local dayroom #4 matchmaker. Actually, I’ve taken on quite a few titles since being here. Hairdresser, shaman, pop, tart, cleaner, matchmaker… The résumé just keeps building. Marilyn even gave Cody‘s mom the website to the blog to read. LOL. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Dreams come true here in Dayroom #4. I can’t wait to see if this becomes anything. What can I say other than I’m here to help. ❤️
Another blessing happened today. There is this group of guys that always holds “church” on the upper tier - opposite of us in the dayroom. The guy who runs it is preparing for a special service for Easter. I guess the word got around of my background and I’ve sang little tunes here and there… Well today he came up to me and asked if I would make a special appearance and sing the song, “Hallelujah” for the Easter service!! I am so so so happy. I don’t know how to express it! Siri, please add “church soloist” to my list of jobs in jail. I know my mom and my aunt’s would be so proud of me. I hope you are too, I’m truly trying to make the most with the cards I’ve been dealt. Marilyn also told me that she went over and saw the dogs the other day and that they’re doing great and getting so much love and attention. So that also made my heart so happy too. I think I want to start singing more again when I get out. I’m trying to use this time to re-train my voice to be a soloist again.
One more pretty cool thing that happened. I was opening a new bar of my DOVE soap, and the guy John from downstairs was also throwing something away. He said, “Oh! You use the $5 bar soap? You know there’s an $8 bar soap and it’s better to clean your face with.” I said that I hadn’t seen that and thanked him for letting me know, and that I would surely order one for the next commissary delivery. Well, then a little later, I was finishing my phone call with Jule, which was great by the way, and on my bed was the $8 bar of Neutrogena soap, with a note that said, “Jesus loves you. He paid for our sins so we wouldn’t have to. He’s just asking us to believe.” 😊 I thought it was a weird cryptic message, especially after the last conversation he and I had had… But nevertheless, it was a very kind gesture, and I was very thankful for the soap.
I am going to shower, do some vocal warm-ups and start practicing a song with the adjusted Easter lyrics for next weeks service. And no, I promise that I do not want to start going to church every week. I can have faith from the privacy of our own home. I am just so happy to have been asked to sing for something. I love you with all of my heart, and when I wake up in the morning, it will be April! I love you. A hundred kisses….XOXO
Love Always,
Sean ❤️ Pop Tart
